A woman has been dubbed 'looter of the year' after she was filmed running off with an entire cow's head from a crashed meat truck.
The grinning looter became a social media star after footage of her fleeing from the crash site emerged from South Africa this week.
Video shows her carrying a bloody cow head so large that she can barely carry it as she jogs away from the carnage smiling broadly.
A caption - inserted by a social media user - reads: 'Looter of the Year 2022'.
Astonishingly, local reports say the footage was shot by a traffic cop who failed to stop her fleeing.
Hundreds of looters reportedly descended on the truck after the crash, reportedly on the N4 highway.
Some reports say the truck was carrying cow carcasses, but others say the lorry contained live cows.
Crowds are said to have dragged off the dead or injured beasts to be butchered on the roadside.
One video shows people gathered around what seem to be dead animals being cut to pieces.
Theft divides social media
But the bizarre footage has infuriated some social media users.
"I don't find it funny. This is encouraging more looting. This metro police officer should be reprimanded for her actions," one person wrote.
Another user called her actions "disgraceful and sad".
"Lawlessness and stealing is a new norm in SA because law enforcement officers look as if this is fine to do."
Other sympathised with the woman, saying it was clear the system had failed her.
"Under normal circumstances, that lady wouldn't touch that bloody cow head, but poverty has activated a sense of desperation deep within her soul."
Some reports stated that the incident actually took place on the R28 provincial route near the town of Westonaria, in the province of Gauteng, and not on the N4.
No one was reported to have been hurt in the incident.
