Angry dad allegedly tried to run down his daughter's bullies

A father in the US was arrested after he was filmed allegedly trying to run over primary school students he believed were bullying his daughter.

Video shows a 4WD allegedly driven by Roy Williams Jnr driving up onto a nature strip in front of Nelson Elementary School in Rockford, Illinois.

The car mows through a crowd of children who manage to scatter out of the way in the viral video shot by Nathan Velez.

Nathan said the attack was indiscriminate.

"He was just going after everybody," the student told WREX.

"We came over to see what was going on," said Trey Telfair, another student.

"We heard there was a fight and the next thing we know her dad showed up.

"People saw it, so they started running."

Before he hopped in his car, 53-year-old Williams threatened the children with a cane after his 13-year-old daughter "got into a little fight with this other girl and hit her," Nathan said.

After arresting him, police said Williams should not have taken matters into his own hands.

He remains in custody with bail set at $200,000, facing charges of aggravated assault with a vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon.
