WATCH: Texting driver causes high-speed pile up on busy London motorway

If ever you needed proof not to text and drive, UK police have just released it.

Dramatic dashcam footage shows a texting truck driver, who caused a high-speed pile-up on a London motorway.

A second camera also caught Ravan Rusu’s reaction seconds before the horrific smash unfolded.

The driver can be seen checking his phone as his truck speeds towards unknowing drivers.

As a result, the 30-year-old driver was sentenced to eight-months behind bars after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.

“Rarely is it possible to see such a clear example of the risks some drivers are willing to take with mobile phones and the danger that using them whilst driving can cause,” Detective Sergeant Stephen Pidgeon said.

“It is only down to the quick thinking of one of the drivers who moved just before impact that there weren’t multiple serious injuries or even worse.”

“That the driver was willing to take these risks whilst being aware that he was being filmed is even more incredible.”

The oblivious driver browsed away only to look up mili-seconds before impact.

While one more alert driver managed to quickly change lanes to avoid impact, two others weren't so lucky and were taken to hospital.

A Romanian national, Mr Rusu flew to his native country following the crash but was quickly arrested when he returned to the United Kingdom.

It's likely Mr Rusu will have to look for a new job when his prison sentence is over as his licence has been suspended for three years.
