Simon Cowell's second favourite X Factor act Brendan Murray has hinted that fans could be in for a surprise from him during Saturday night's first live show.

The finalist – who sailed through Judges' Houses with his performance of 'Nothing Compares to You' – told Digital Spy that his song choice for this weekend will reflect his life experiences and be similar "in vibe" to previous performances - although there could be a small "twist".

The song I'm singing, it's going to be a bit about myself, what I've gone through and I'm really, really looking forward to singing it," said Brendan.

"I've learned that my vocals and the piano works well together, and I've kind of gone for a similar vibe but with a twist. And I'm really looking forward to it, hopefully it comes across well... I'm getting butterflies thinking about it!"

Recalling his time at Judges' Houses with mentor Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Chic legend Nile Rodgers, he continued: "It was amazing.

"I was a 1D fan, it was great getting to meet Liam. Beforehand, they [Liam and Louis] both helped us get ready and feel relaxed before our performances.

"They were great and they knew what we were going through and it was great to get advice off them. They didn't have to do what they did, they did that off their own backs and it was very much appreciated."

Louis' Boys' category also includes Anthony Russell, Dalton Harris and Armstrong Martins.

Brendan was awarded the Golden X after his performance of REM's 'Everybody Hurts' during the Six Chair Challenge.

He was previously a member of Irish boyband Hometown – and in 2017, he was Ireland's hopeful at Eurovision, performing 'Dying to Try' in the semi-finals in Kiev.

The X Factor continues on Saturday night at 8pm on ITV.
