The Yorkshire Shepherdess - who last month confirmed rumours her 21 year marriage was under strain were true - is appearing in her own episode of BBC Four series Winter Walks airing tonight, Monday 29 November at 7.30pm.
Owen, 47, said: "It feels just a bit strange because I’m on my own. There’s nobody nipping at my heels, there’s nobody asking questions.
"That’s not to say that I don’t like being out and about with the family and the children – of course that’s great – but the old analogy, a dog being like its owner, is true.
"Because sheep dogs can’t switch off. They just want to work, their minds are buzzing. That’s how I feel.
"So many different things coming at you from so many directions. A bit of headspace is good for everyone.”
She added: "As a shepherd and a hill farmer you do not set out on a walk for no reason – so this is a bit of an adventure, really.”
Owen has been married to 66-year-old farmer Clive for 21 years and they have nine children together.
They rose to fame starring in their own Channel 5 reality show Our Yorkshire Farm which began in 2018.
Clive and Amanda said in a joint statement in October: "With the TV show and the books we've always aimed to show the reality of life on the farm, and just like any marriage we have our stresses and strains, coupled with all the complexities of what we do on the farm and bringing up nine kids.
"We're a normal family, and we've never said our marriage is perfect. Unfortunately, the constant intrusion into our lives from the media has amplified a rocky patch that we're going through.”
The couple met in 1995, when she was 21 and he was 42. Clive's first wife - of 13 years - had recently left him and Amanda went to work on his farm as a shepherdess.
They are parents to Raven, 20, Reuben, 17, Miles, 15, Edith, 12, Violet, ten, Sidney, nine, Annas, seven, Clemmie, five, and Nancy, four.
The Owens family run the 2000-acre Ravenseat Farm in Swaledale, Yorkshire Dales and entered the spotlight in 2011, appearing in The Dales with Adrian Edmondson.
They have since featured in Ben Fogle’s New Lives In The Wild, made guest appearances on This Morning.
