Owen Glenn quits anti-violence campaign

Sir Owen Glenn has cancelled his bid to become a White Ribbon anti-violence campaign ambassador.

White Ribbon is a global campaign led by men who condemn violence against women.

Sir Glenn has denied decade-old allegations that he physically abused a woman in Hawaii lashing out at media organisations who are delving into his personal life "to fill their pages".

Fairfax reports Sir Glenn, who is currently funding an inquiry into domestic violence and child abuse in New Zealand, pleaded no contest in a Hawaiian court in 2003 to a charge of abuse against a young woman.

A plea of no contest means a person neither denies nor admits the offence.

He failed to declare the allegations in his nomination because he stands by the fact that he is violence free.
