2024 Emmy Predictions:
Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series
Weekly Commentary (Updated: July 9, 2024): So few spots are available and could be a photo finish for many series. The only show that seems “locked” for a nomination is Netflix’s highly-watched “Baby Reindeer,” with its streaming counterpart “Ripley” following closely behind.
That leaves the potential for several high-profile shows to miss out on noms if they fail to garner enough votes, even series with strong guild showings such as Apple’s “Lessons in Chemistry” or talked-about mystery shows such as HBO/Max’s “True Detective: Night Country.”

The absolute competitive bloodbath of all the series categories is in the limited or anthology race, where only 49 miniseries are angling for love.
Per Emmy rules, only five shows will receive nominations, short of the required 80 submissions to recognize six. Miniseries have been where some of the buzziest TV hits have emerged in recent years and this one is no different. With acclaimed series such as Netflix’s (maybe?) true story “Baby Reindeer,” Apple’s war epic “Masters of the Air” and HBO/Max’s “The Sympathizer” among the contenders, that could leave any of the presumed frontrunners vulnerable for a shocking omission. The number of submissions is down from last year’s 51. There were 61 and 37 shows during the 2022 and 2021 seasons.
Nominations-round voting is open from June 13 and closes on June 24 at 10:00 p.m. PT. Voting for peer group-specific top ten round panels (if applicable) takes place between June 28 and July 8. The Emmy nominations will be announced on July 17. The Creative Arts and Governors Gala ceremonies will occur over two nights on Sept. 7-8. The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on ABC on Sunday, Sept. 15.

About the Primetime Emmy Awards
The Primetime Emmy Awards, commonly known as the Emmys, are awarded by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS). Established in 1949, these celebrate outstanding achievements in American primetime television. The Emmys are categorized into three divisions: the Primetime Emmy Awards for performance and production excellence; the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, recognizing achievements in artistry and craftsmanship; and the Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards, which honor significant engineering and technological advancements. The eligibility period typically extends from June 1 to May 31 each year. The Television Academy hosts the Emmys and has over 20,000 members across 30 professional peer groups, including performers, directors, producers, art directors, artisans and executives.
