3 people remain in hospital with 'very serious' injuries after Chatham-Kent crash
Police in Chatham-Kent say three people involved in a two-vehicle crash on Queen's Line near Merlin Road remain in area hospitals with "very serious" injuries.
It happened just before 9 p.m. Monday, according to authorities, and sent six people in total to hospital — three of whom have since been released.
Ofthe three still in hospital, one was airlifted to London and two others were taken by ambulance to hospitals in Windsor and London, police say.
Sgt. Lynette Rosina with Chatham-Kent police says it's unclear at this point if there are life-threatening injuries.
One of the vehicles, travelling westbound on Queen's Line, turned south on to Merlin Line, police say, resulting in the collision with an eastbound vehicle.
"As a result of the impact, one of the vehicles veered off the roadway and came to rest in a ditch on the southeast corner of the intersection, while the other vehicle remained in the eastbound lane facing west," police said in a statement.
The westbound vehicle was carrying six people, and the other vehicle had only its driver, police say. The only person who didn't require any medical attention in hospital was the driver of the westbound vehicle .
Police say the crash involved two females and five males — ranging in age from 11 to 47.
