4 dead, at least 9 injured after minivan crashes into Long Island nail salon

NEW YORK — Four people are dead and at least nine others are injured after a minivan crashed through a Long Island nail salon Friday afternoon.

Suffolk County fire officials said the vehicle drove all the way through Hawaii Nail & Spa in Deer Park around 4:30 p.m., but did not immediately say what caused the “major accident.”

The vehicle plowed into the salon and stopped only once it reached the rear of the business, according to CBS News.

All four of the dead were inside the salon at the time of the crash and were pronounced deceased at the scene, Deer Park Fire Department Assistant Chief Dominic Albanese said in a evening news briefing.

Nine other victims were rushed to local hospitals, with one of the victims being airlifted by rescue helicopter, Albanese said.

The minivan’s driver was among those injured and was said to be partially conscious when taken to an area hospital, according to ABC 7.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
