52-Year-Old Woman Found Dead in Duffel Bag at Her New York City Apartment

The woman has been identified as Nadia Vitel

The body of a 52-year-old woman was found stuffed inside a duffle bag in her New York City apartment, according to multiple reports.

Police responded to a welfare check request on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. local time at the apartment on the 19th floor of a building on East 31st Street in Kips Bay, Manhattan when they found the body, per NBC 4 New York, PIX 11 and ABC 7.

The woman has been identified as Nadia Vitel. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to NBC 4 New York and ABC 7, family members contacted police after they became concerned when they couldn't reach Vitel. NBC 4 New York reported that her son and the building's super were with the police when her body was discovered.

According to NBC 4 New York's report, surveillance video from her apartment building shows Vitel entering on March 10.

ABC 7 and NBC 4 New York both report that video footage also shows two unidentified people entering the building on March 10. Police have confirmed that video footage exists to ABC 7.

Upon investigating her apartment building, police reportedly discovered some of Vitel's personal items in the area near the building's garbage disposal.
