An American Airlines flight slipped off a runway at New York’s Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport at around 4 p.m on Thursday, leading to 53 people having to be evacuated from the aircraft.
The plane had traveled from Philadelphia and slipped after landing due to snowy weather conditions.

“Safety is our top priority, and we apologize to our customers for their experience,” they added. “Everyone on board deplaned safely and was transported to the terminal by bus.”
American Airlines also stated that the aircraft will be towed from the taxiway and undergo a full inspection.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also provided PEOPLE with a statement which confirmed that none of those on board had reported being injured during the incident.
“American Eagle Flight 5811 slid off a taxiway after landing at Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport in New York around 4 p.m.local time Thursday, Jan. 18,” they wrote.
“The Embraer E145 had departed from Philadelphia International Airport. No injuries were reported. The FAA will investigate. Contact the airline for additional information.”
According to a report from Fox Weather, at least one of the runways at the Rochester airport — which has three runways — was closed temporarily as the aircraft was attended to by crews.
Meanwhile, a passenger who had been on the aircraft shared a video and picture on social media.
“My @AmericanAir plane just ran off the runway into the grass at @ROCAirport. Happy landings,” the individual wrote on X, (formerly known as Twitter), alongside a photo of the plane on grass that was covered in snow.
The same X user then shared a video of passengers exiting the aircraft down a metal set of stairs as a number of firefighters stood close by.
