7-Year-Old Minn. Girl Is Severely Injured After Dogs Attacked Her on Walk Home from School

A 7-year-old girl was attacked by a group of dogs in St. Paul, Minn., on Thursday and suffered serious injuries to her face.

Sumaya Farah Ali was walking back from school with her mother when she was attacked by five dogs, her family says in a GoFundMe description.

Sumaya suffered injuries to her nose, ear and thigh and will likely require plastic surgery, her family says.

KARE 11 reports that St. Paul police responded to reports of the attack and found the girl with multiple dog bites.

Police say the owner of the dogs has been cooperative and surrendered them to animal control, the outlet reports. Police did not immediately respond to a request for information on the incident. It is not clear if charges will be filed.

In an update posted Sunday, Sumaya’s family says her swelling has gone down and she didn’t suffer major damage to her eyesight.

“This has really shaken us up and Sumaya and her sister Munira are afraid to go to school,” the organizer wrote. “They came here to the US initially for my sister Munira to get surgery for a congenital heart defect because of congenital rubella syndrome but now also Sumaya has gone to the hospital for this attack we never thought this would happen.”

So far, the GoFundMe has raised $34,000.
