Ice addict jailed over deadly high-speed crash

A Brazilian driver who was high on ice and speeding through a red light when he killed three people in Melbourne has been jailed for 16 years.

Nei Lima Da Costa was travelling at about 120km/h when he struck Anthony Parsons as he crossed a Melbourne intersection, before colliding with a car and killing couple Savvas and Ismini Menelaou.

Victorian Supreme Court Justice Lex Lasry on Wednesday ordered Lima Da Costa serve a minimum of 11 years in jail before he is eligible for parole.

Justice Lasry said Lima Da Costa had been speeding through red lights and weaving in and out of traffic in the build-up to the "massive tragedy".

"Your action on that night was not the result of a momentary lapse in concentration," he told Lima Da Costa.

"This occurred after 14 kilometres of horrifically fast and reckless driving on your part.

"You've done something that has affected the lives of dozens of people, including you and your family."

Blood tests found ice in Lima Da Costa's system and witnesses saw a "white blur" speeding past in the lead-up to the triple fatality in January this year.

Lima Da Costa, 30, pleaded guilty to seven charges including culpable driving causing death, negligently causing serious injury and reckless conduct endangering life.
