Amber Heard is celebrating her birthday as she continues to lead a quiet life in Spain.

The actress turned 38 on Monday, April 22, just a few weeks after her daughter Oonagh Paige had her third birthday April 8. In recent months, Heard has been spotted on rare occasions, stepping out in Madrid for runs.

PEOPLE previously reported on Heard's new life abroad, with a source saying she felt she "just had to get out of the U.S." after her polarizing defamation trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp in Virginia.

There was too much “chaos” after the June 2022 verdict, which fell mostly in favor of Depp, 60. It was an outcome Heard called a "setback" for other women at the time. (She has since agreed to pay Depp $1 million in a settlement.)

Heard first moved to the Spanish island of Mallorca before situating herself in an upscale neighborhood of Madrid. There "she gets more privacy," a source said in July 2023.

The star, in a viral video last summer, answered questions from local reporters on the sidewalk, saying in Spanish, "I love Spain so much." When they asked if she plans to stay, she replied, "Yes, I hope so. Yes, I love living here."

Heard returned to the screen in the indie thriller In the Fire, attending the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily in June 2023 to promote it.

The film's director, Conor Allyn told PEOPLE in October 2023 that Heard is "such a dedicated mom" who is "really good about making the time” for baby Oonagh.

“She's living her best life in Spain with her daughter and just finding happiness in that way,” he said at the time, adding that Heard has “moved on” from the legal battles, however, "I think people carry trauma for a long time."

Heard's most recent Instagram post came Jan. 3, when she shared behind-the-scenes photos from her time making Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

The actress, who doesn't currently have any upcoming projects listed on IMDb, reprised her role as Mera in the superhero sequel, which hit theaters in December and is streaming on Max.

"After all this time, Aquaman 2 made its splash (sorry, it’s too easy)," she wrote in the caption. "Thank you to all of my fans for the overwhelming support and love in Mera’s AQ return. Thank you so much."
