It was love at first sight for Andy García and his wife, Marivi Lorido García.

The Oscar-nominated star proposed the night they met, and the couple dated for seven years before getting married in September 1982.

"Those things can happen," Andy told PEOPLE in June 2022. "I didn't want her to get away."

After gracing red carpets for decades, the two have been lauded for their enduring marriage, but they've also been longtime partners on the professional front, too.

Andy is an acclaimed actor — starring in 1990's The Godfather Part III, 2018's Book Club (and its 2023 sequel), 2022's Father of the Bride and the Ocean's movies — while Marivi is a film producer known for 1998's Just the Ticket. Together, she and Andy own the production company CineSon Entertainment.

So who is Andy García's wife? Here's everything to know about Marivi Lorido García and her relationship with the actor-director.

They're both Cuban

Marivi's parents were originally from Taramundi, Asturias, Spain, per Le Voz de Austrias. They later settled in Cuba, but as Fidel Castro rose to power during the Cuban Revolution, Marivi's parents decided to flee the Communist regime for the United States and made Miami their home.

Andy's family also left Havana for Miami when he was a child, as he shared in 2021 in a commemorative post to his mother on Instagram.

They were both students at Florida International University during the mid-'70s when they first saw each other in a Miami nightclub. For Andy, there was an instant connection with Marivi, who was working as a photographer, according to The Morning Call.

"It was [actually] a thunderbolt," the Ocean's Eleven star told PEOPLE in 2022. "We were very young, but she swept me off my feet. Some people know each other a while, and there's a friendship first, but when we met that night, it was very clear that this was the woman of my life."

Once Mariviv said "yes" to Andy's spur-of-the-moment proposal, the couple dated for seven years before tying the knot on Sept. 24, 1982 — and they've been together ever since.

"She was easy to persuade, but her father wasn't," he told Chicago Tribune in May 1997.

Andy was a struggling actor working as a banquet waiter at The Beverly Hills Hilton, and it was Marivi who pressed Andy to call his agent about a role in the 1985 crime thriller The Mean Season.

Marivi was right: Andy landed the role of Ray Martinez in the film, which also starred Kurt Russell and Richard Jordan as leads.

They welcomed Dominik — who has costarred in multiple films with her dad — in 1983, Daniella in 1988, Alessandra in 1991 and Andrés in 2002.

The tight-knit family often shares group photos on Instagram, like the throwback snapshot Alessandra posted in 2019 of the García clan at the American Music Awards.

The couple's production company, CineSon Entertainment, has released several films under its banner — including the 1998 film Just the Ticket, starring her husband and Andie MacDowell.

Marivi and Andy also worked together on a few other CineSon projects — like the 2009 film City Island featuring Julianna Margulies.

"For Mother's Day, we'd always take the opportunity to go to Disney," Andy and Marvi's daughter Alessandra told Vogue in 2020. "[Marivi is] a huge fan and a member of Club 33, their secret private club."

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family couldn't take Marivi to Disneyland, so they brought the park to their backyard by setting up a tea party inspired by the matriarch's favorite movie: Alice in Wonderland.

"Right now, we're doing small things just to bring her out of the quarantine-mom protective mode that she's in right now," Alessandra added.

However, the Garcías were able to resume their annual visits to the Land of the Mouse in 2022, per a TikTok video Alessandra shared.

"A day at Disneyland with my dad," she captioned the clip.
