Kyle MacLachlan, the face of cult classics like David Lynch's 1986 film Blue Velvet and the '90s mystery series Twin Peaks, is taking on a new role: the Leader of Arby’s Potato Cakes.

On July 1, the sandwich chain announced that their fan-favorite side, the Potato Cake, is returning to menus nationwide for a limited time. The Fallout actor is partnering with the brand to share the news of “The Order of Potato Cakes."

In one promotional video shared by Arby's, MacLachlan is seen uncovering a glowing Potato Cake from the ground. In another, the star narrates an "orientation" video for the Order of Arby's Potato Cakes, and urges fans to "fulfill the prophecy" of "true Potato Cake enlightenment."

“Let's just say the potato in general is very, very important to me, being a lover of carbohydrates,” MacLachlan, 65, tells PEOPLE. “The hash brown is great and this is very, very similar to a hash brown that I particularly love.”

Passionate Potato Cake fans have asked Arby’s to bring back the beloved side (shredded potatoes fried until crisp and golden brown) ever since it was discontinued in 2021. Potato Cakes have been mentioned more than 10,000 times on social media, per a statement shared with PEOPLE. They've also inspired online petitions and fan accounts.

“[The fans] are responsible for Arby's going, ‘Hey, you know what? We have to listen to our fans. We're going to bring these Potato Cakes back,’” MacLachlan says. “And thank God they did, because they reached out to me, so I get to be the leader of the order of the Potato Cakes, which is a big responsibility.”

As for MacLachlan’s preferred way to enjoy a Potato Cake, the Dune star says he likes to keep things old school.

“I am a fairly classic eater of Potato Cake, so I like the Potato Cake [with] an Arby's sauce that's really good with it or ketchup sauce,” he says. “That, to me, is kind of the match.” MacLachlan is open to new combinations too, like adding a Potato Cake to an Arby’s Beef ‘N Cheddar sandwich, along with the chain’s Horsey Sauce.

“I think that combination is genius,” he says. “I've yet to try it, but I've heard it's spectacular.”

MacLachlan confirms that Agent Dale Cooper, who MacLachlan played on Twin Peaks, would “absolutely” be a fan of Potato Cakes as well.

“I think the Potato Cake works really well with a hot black coffee,” he says. “It's like you've got kind of the richness of the Potato Cake and you've got kind of the bitterness of the coffee with a little bit of acid to cut through everything. I think that combination would be ideal.”

“[Cooper is] a breakfast guy anyway,” he continues. “It's all about how maple syrup and ham collides, as he would say. So he would find the right combination.”
