Army reservists take part in two weeks of training

Army reservists in Jersey are taking part in two weeks of training exercises.

Soldiers from the Jersey Field Squadron will train in various locations around the island with blank ammunition and pyrotechnics, as well as live ammunition on a firing range.

They will be joined by members of their parent regiment, the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers.

The squadron said the exercises, which last until 30 June, are "designed to enhance combat engineering skills and ensure operational readiness and capability".

The squadron, whose main role is to provide combat engineering support to the Army, will practice combat during this year's training as well as trade skills like bridging, demolitions, and construction.

It said the exercise was "crucial" for developing soldiers' skills and would help strengthen its "ability to support the UK's defence operations".

In a statement, the squadron said: "We understand that some of the planned activities may cause disturbance to residents and we want to assure all islanders that every measure has been taken to ensure safety and minimise disruption."
