Arnold Schwarzenegger on Teaming with Jake from State Farm for Super Bowl Ad: 'I Had to Get Him in Shape' (Exclusive)

"I said, by the time we do the commercial, you have to have 8% body fat," Arnold Schwarzenegger says of working with Kevin Miles, a.k.a. Jake from State Farm

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jake from State Farm went from workout buddies to costars.

Schwarzenegger, 76, tells PEOPLE that he helped get Jake - a.k.a. actor Kevin Miles — get into appropriate action star shape for their new State Farm insurance advertising campaign ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.

"Well, we worked out together. I had to get him in shape for this because when I heard that he has 10% body fat, that was unacceptable," Schwarzenegger tells PEOPLE of spending time with Miles. "So I said to him, I said, 'By the time we do the commercial, you have to have 8% body fat.' And so he really whipped himself in great shape and he was a lot of fun to work with. He's a really funny guy and he's of course a great actor. So it was fun."

The duo were seen working out together during a shoot at Gold's Gym in Venice, Calif., in January. Days later, State Farm released its teaser trailer for its new ad campaign featuring Schwarzenegger as Agent State Farm. On Tuesday, the company released another spot that features the Terminator star humorously struggling to say the "Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there," slogan with his famous Austrian accent.

"I had a wonderful experience and I just hope that it would do well because when I saw the commercial, I said this myself, I really had to laugh," he adds of the spot as it sets to air during Sunday's game.

The commercial is a play on Schwarzenegger's longtime career in the film industry as an action star. The actor and former California governor shared in recent months that his accent "became an asset" for him as he established himself as a leading man in the late 1970s and early '80s.

"Let's do kind of like a movie, make it big," he says of the inspiration behind the new campaign. "And so it's kind of using all of my things that I'm known for - it's the action movies, it's the accents, it's the comedy."

"I found [that] when I wanted to get in the movies, they said it will never happen because of your accent," Schwarzenegger tells PEOPLE. "And so that's another thing why I enjoyed doing this commercial because now we are kind of capitalizing on the accent idea and of mispronouncing things and not having the perfect American accent and all that stuff."

Schwarzenegger's State Farm commercial will air just before the second quarter begins on Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers face off in Super Bowl LVIII, airing on CBS at 6:30 p.m. ET.
