A five-time winner and Grammy Legend Award recipient, Joel has been confirmed as a performer just days after announcing the release of “Turn the Lights Back On,” his first new single in 17 years. Joel co-wrote the single with the song’s producer Freddy Wexler, who has worked on songs for artists spanning Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez to Kanye West and Lil Wayne. Additional writers for the song include Wayne Hector (Nicki Minaj, One Direction) and Arthur Bacon.
The 74-year-old singer and songwriter last released “All My Life” as a one-off single in 2007 but has been a mainstay on the performance circuit, with numerous residencies booked at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Last July, he announced that his residence at the famed venue would come to an end in July 2024 with his 100th performance in the series.
The top nominees for this year’s Grammy Awards are Eilish and Rodrigo with six nods each while R&B star SZA leads the list with a total of nine nominations. Following SZA, tied with seven nominations apiece, are Victoria Monét, Phoebe Bridgers (six of those for her work with Boygenius, one for a collaboration with SZA) and mixing engineer Serban Ghenea.
The Grammy Awards will return to Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on Sunday, Feb. 4, from 8-11:30 p.m. ET / 5-8:30 p.m. PT and will air live on the CBS Television Network and stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.
