Bride and Prejudice star breaks silence after death claims: 'Hacked'

The former reality TV star has spoken out following reports she passed away.

A former Australian reality TV star who was reported to have died in a horrific car crash has emerged to deny claims she had passed away.

Bride and Prejudice Australia star Dannii Erskine was said to have died in a “horrible tragedy”, with someone claiming to be her sister Dee telling So Dramatic! she was “T-boned” by a drunk driver on April 28 and had her skull “crushed upon impact with the airbag”.

The 28-year-old’s Instagram account also featured an in-memoriam post that read: “Rest in peace Dannii Erskine 1995-2023.”

“We appreciate and respect wishes we have received as a family,” the caption read. “Thank you for your support and respect.”

However, Dannii has since shared a statement via a friend confirming she’s still alive and claimed an unidentified hacker had started the wild rumour.

“On the 29th of April, 2023, my Instagram account was hacked,” she told So Dramatic! on Wednesday, adding that she has already reported the incident to the police who are “going to look into it”.

Dannii revealed that the false reports of her death have since caused major issues between herself and her family.

“I spoke to my family who has now completely disowned me,” she said.

She also explained that she was in a car accident in September 2022 which resulted in a severe ankle injury that kept her homebound for six months, and she has spent the past week in hospital recovering from ankle reconstruction surgery.

“I have been in hospital all week getting ankle reconstruction,” she continued. “I can’t control what the media [says] but I was advised from doctors to focus on my foot recovery. I haven’t had time to deal with this.”

'Caused severe issues'

Dannii went on to address the strange email sent to the media publication from someone posing to be her sister while her Instagram was hacked.

“I was advised not to comment, my sister never emailed So Dramatic!,” she said. “All I know [is] it was sent from someone who hacked my account. I have no idea who emailed So Dramatic! and to be honest I don’t really care.

She continued: “My sister never confirmed anything and it shouldn’t [have] been published without family speaking. All I know is this has not just affected me. It has put a lot of stress on my family and has caused severe issues for my sister.”

Following reports of Dannii’s death, an anonymous source and a police statement earlier this week seemingly confirmed Dannii is still alive.

“She is alive,” an anonymous source tells 7NEWS.com.au.

A statement by Victoria Police said: "We can’t comment on any individuals due to privacy legislation but I can confirm we have no fatal or life-threatening collisions recorded in the North Melbourne area in the past month.”

A spokesperson for the Coroner's Court of Victoria told the publication: “The Court does not have a record of the death of Dannii Erskine.”
