Brittany Snow talks 'shocking' divorce from “Selling the OC”'s Tyler Stanaland: 'I did not know what was going on'
The "Pitch Perfect" star says she was "just completely shocked that I didn't have a handle on reality."
Brittany Snow is getting candid about her "shocking" divorce from Tyler Stanaland.
On the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, the Pitch Perfect actress detailed her split from the Selling the OC star, from whom she filed for divorce in January 2023.
Selling the OC viewers noted romantic tension between Stanaland and his costar Kayla Cardona in the first season of the Netflix reality series, before the show revealed that he kissed costar Polly Brindle in the season 2 premiere, which aired in September 2023. Later in the season, Stanaland became entangled with costar Alex Hall.
When Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper asked, "Did you know her?" Snow quipped, "Which one?" She added, "No. I did not know what was going on. I think as someone who's so hands-on with my career, I think I was just completely shocked that I didn't have a handle on reality in that way. That was shocking."
EW has reached out to reps for Stanaland for comment.
Snow didn't want to give much more public attention to the situation, but still acknowledged the split. "They took up a lot of energy and emotion and time and real estate in my head, and I don't want to give them any more time and energy because then they would win, and they would get what they wanted, which was getting my time and energy and attention," she said. "I was not aware of a lot of things. And I'll say that. So I will say: What people think happened, happened. And I think that there's also in my experience with this and how I've processed it, there's a lot of grace that I give myself, and also I can own — there's a part of this that I don't have a part in. They messed up. But I tried very hard to see it all from every side and release that anger, because it doesn't serve me."
The actress confirmed that she watched Selling the OC in the midst of her divorce. "Of course I saw it, you know?" she said. "I watched it with my dog. Whatever. It's like, now I can laugh about it because I think it's so, it's insane and it's so funny. It’s so crazy."
Although her breakup with Stanaland was painful, Snow noted that she doesn't regret the relationship overall. "There was a marriage there, there was so much love," she said. "And I think that gray is hard to understand, because it's much more salacious and interesting that it's just 'He did this and she did this,' and I think that's what I would want to, I guess put out there, is that I think a lot of people go into relationships where someone hurts them, but I don't regret it. I don't regret anything that happened, because I loved that time that we had when we had it."
Snow also recalled how a former costar helped her work through the split. "There was this one time that I texted a girl from Pitch Perfect, one of the Bellas, and I said, 'What do you do in this situation? How did you handle this emotion? Because it's so much pain that I don't know if I can do it,'" Snow said. "And she just said, 'You just sit there. You just sit there, and you just take it, and you just exist. Just exist.' And I just remember sitting there being like, 'Okay, I'm gonna exist.' And it passes, and then you just realize, oh, this stuff is so ephemeral in a way. Like, it does hurt, but it comes and goes."
