BTS' Suga Announces Military Service Start Date

In August, Big Hit Music announced Suga would start South Korea's mandatory military service

BTS' Suga officially has a start date for South Korea's mandatory military service.

"Suga will be beginning his required service on September 22,” Big Hit Music wrote in a statement on Weverse. “There will not be any official events taking place on the day he starts his service or on the day he enters the training camp. We kindly ask fans to refrain from visiting Suga at his workplace during the period of his service. Please convey your warm regards and encouragement in your hearts only.”

The statement continued, "We ask for your continued love and support for Suga until he completes his service and returns. Our company will also strive to provide all the support he needs during this time,” the statement continued.

On Sunday, Suga also appeared on Weverse to discuss enlistment. A fan translation reveals that his time in the military isn't anything for his fans to cry about, and he'll see them again in 2025.

Suga is the third member of BTS to participate in South Korea's mandatory military service, following Jin and J-Hope. Throughout the next few years, all seven members of BTS will enlist, with the band expected to reunited in 2025.

In August, Big Hit Music revealed in a statement posted to Weverse that Suga had "initiated the military enlistment process by applying for the termination of his enlistment postponement.

“We ask you for your continued love and support for SUGA until he completes his military service and safely returns. Our company will spare no effort in providing support for our artist,” the statement said.

The announcement came just one day after the K-pop rapper/singer/songwriter ended his Agust D trek in support of his debut album D-Day wrapped with three shows from Aug. 4 to 6 at Seoul's KSPO Dome.

Following his set, Suga appeared on Weverse live to send a heartfelt message to the ARMY. “I came to say hi after my last concert,” he said. He showed off his tattoo after a fan inquired about it, but the "Haegeum" performer got emotional about the end of his tour.

“I think I had a fun tour the last couple of months. I really don’t cry,” he said before reflecting on BTS' journey. “Those past 10 years went by like a film. I started crying from then.”

While Suga seemed to hint at putting off his upcoming military service, he didn't address it directly. “I think it’s a lie if I say ‘soon,'” he told fans. “Let’s see each other in 2025, OK? Please wait a little bit. 2025. See you then!”
