Buckingham Palace Shares Throwback Footage Of Queen Elizabeth For The Monarch's 94th Birthday

Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating her 94th birthday today.
Buckingham Palace celebrated the sovereign's special day by posting vintage footage of a young Queen Elizabeth with her family via the royal family Instagram account.

Happy birthday to the queen!

Queen Elizabeth II is ringing in her 94th birthday today, and to honor the occasion, Buckingham Palace has shared a throwback video of the monarch as a young child from the private archives of the Royal Collection Trust.

In the black-and-white footage, then-Princess Elizabeth is seen playing with her family, including her beloved younger sister, Princess Margaret. Additional footage showcases the birthday royal participating in some of her favorite pastimes, such as horseback riding and admiring wildlife.

"Head of the Commonwealth, Head of the Armed Forces, Head of State in 16 countries and the longest reigning Monarch in British History. Wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Happy birthday, Your Majesty!" the video's caption read in part.

Other members of the royal family also took to social media to give the sovereign their well wishes. Prince William and Duchess Kate shared an image via their Kensington Royal Instagram account; it featured the couple alongside the queen, followed by the message, "Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very happy 94th birthday today! 🎂🎈"

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, of course, wished the queen a happy birthday as well by way of their Instagram account, Clarence House, with a series of images showcasing themselves with the monarch throughout the years.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis plaguing the United Kingdom, as well as the rest of the globe, annual traditions honoring the queen's birthday—including a gun salute and the yearly Trooping the Colour event—will not commence this year.
