Burt Bacharach passes away at the age of 94

The legendary composer died at his home in Los Angeles

Burt Bacharach has died at the age of 94.

The legendary composer - who was behind hits like Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head and Do You Know The Way To San Jose - died of natural causes at his home in LA on Wednesday (8 February).

A representative for the star confirmed the sad news to the Washington Post.

Born in Missouri in 1928, Bacharach grew up in New York and developed an interest in music when he was in his teens.

Bacharach wrote and co-wrote countless hit songs across his long career, with some of the best known including I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself, On My Own and I Say A Little Prayer.

He won a raft of top awards, including Grammys and Oscars, for his music.

Tim Burgess of The Charlatans was among those to pay tribute, tweeting: "One of the greatest songwriting legacies in the history of ever. Farewell Burt Bacharach, you were a king."

Radio DJ Tony Blackburn wrote: "How sad that Burt Bacharach has passed away, I loved his music more than any other composer. R.I.P. and thanks for the hours of pleasure listening and playing your very special music."

Presenter Lizzie Cundy said she was "heartbroken" to hear the news.

"I was so very lucky to interview him and what a total gentleman he was!" she tweeted.

"So many incredible hits! Undoubtedly one of the worlds greatest songwriters ever... Say a little prayer... and we all will."

Noel Gallagher shared a picture of the late composer, tweeting: "RIP Maestro. It was a pleasure to have known you. NGX."
