California Woman Arrested For Stealing $2,500 Worth Of Stanley Cups
As if the highly sought after Stanley Quencher could stir up more mayhem, it just did. The popular cup has become a collectors item attracting crowds upon every new release. It even survived a car fire. But now, it's the focus of a criminal investigation.
On January 17, a 23-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stealing 65 Stanley products valued at nearly $2,500, according to a Facebook post by the Roseville, California, Police Department.
"Staff saw a woman take a shopping cart full of Stanley water bottles without paying for them," the statement said. "The suspect refused to stop for staff and stuffed her car with the stolen merchandise."
After the theft was reported, the statement said that a police officer spotted the car and initiated a traffic stop. During the search, the officer found the vehicle's trunk and passenger seat full of Stanley products—there was even a cup in the cup holder.
The woman was arrested for Grand Theft.
"While Stanley Quenchers are all the rage, we strongly advise against turning to crime to fulfill your hydration habits," the statement said.
While recent releases of the cult-favorite product have created chaos, last November fans even camped out to secure the Starbucks holiday Stanley. The $49.95 tumbler was going for $200 on eBay.
What's next for the cult-favorite product? At this point, who knows. But it might be destined for the same fate as our childhood Beanie Babies. I mean, how many reusable cups do we really need?
