Chris Pratt and wife Katherine Schwarzenegger draw huffs and puffs for blowing historic L.A. house down

The couple demolished the Zimmerman house to build their dream home near Maria Shriver.

Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger just want their house, in the middle of Maria Shriver's street. But their architectural ambitions have rubbed some the wrong way.

The couple recently demolished a famous house to build a 15,000 sq. ft. mansion across the street from Schwarzenegger's mother.

Pratt and Schwarzenegger bought the 1950 Zimmerman house, designed by architect Craig Ellwood in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles Conservancy, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving historic places in the city, called the house "a noteworthy example of Modernist design from this era." According to the Conservancy, the SurveyLA program identified the house "as potentially historic" though it was never protected as such.

The Guardians of the Galaxy star and his wife purchased the home last year for $12.5 million and have contracted architect Ken Ungar to design their new house in his signature, ubiquitous modern farmhouse style.

Reps for Pratt did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.
