Coleen Rooney has spoken out for the first time about her marriage to husband Wayne, a couple of months after the footballer was found guilty of a drink-driving offence.

In a long and emotional post to Facebook, Coleen addressed the rumours surrounding her marriage, speaking candidly about their struggles as a family and living in the public eye.

Explaining she that has "put [her] wedding ring on" after going without it for feeling "unsure" about her and Wayne's relationship, Coleen insisted that the couple intend to work on their marriage.

"A few people have been feeling sorry for me, please don't. I appreciate getting cared about, however, I am a strong person, I don't feel sorry for myself," she told fans.

"Also a few people are probably thinking am stupid for staying in my marriage. I am not stupid, I know my own mind and it's something I want to try and work on."

Clarifying that she is not "taking Wayne back" as he "never left", Coleen admitted the past few months had been "a shit time".

"Yes, time was spent apart and I thought my marriage might have been at an end," she added.

Praising the former England footballer as a "brilliant dad", Coleen went on to share her thoughts on the 'dangers' of alcohol, admitting that drinking a lot "changes some people drastically".

"I do have a private life and we are real people which is sometimes overlooked. We do have worries, troubles and obstacles in life we tackle and go through without anyone knowing and we also have fantastic fun times making memories with our loved ones without people knowing," she wrote.

Coleen signed off the post by confirming that her and Wayne "are trying to make the relationship work" for their children.

"I want to try and continue our marriage and live as a family, because that's what I want to do," she continued. "I'm not saying everything is fine and forgotten about, but we are as good as can be at this point, I'm not the type of person to put a show on and say we're all loved-up… I'm just real."

Shortly before Wayne was charged with drink-driving back in August, the long-time couple announced that they were expecting a baby.

The childhood sweethearts already have three children together, 6-year-old Kai, 4-year-old Klay and Kit, who was born last January.
