Couple Wins $1M Lottery Prize on Scratch-Off Ticket 1 Day After They Got Married

The 57-year-old Michigan man bought the ticket for his new wife, only for them to realize they hit the jackpot, according to lottery officials

A Michigan couple has hit two very different jackpots in just one week!

The husband, described by Michigan lottery officials as a 57-year-old man from Livingston County, recently bought a Diamond & Pearls ticket at the E-Z Mart on West Houghton Lake Drive in Prudenville.

The ticket, which was purchased the day after the man got married, wound up being a winner, according to Wednesday’s press release.

“I bought the ticket the day after my wedding and gave it to my wife to scratch,” the man told Michigan lottery officials.

The man said both he and his wife “were in disbelief” when they realized the ticket was a $1 million winner.

“We kept reading the instructions over and over again to make sure we really won,” the man continued. “It was an exciting couple of days for us!”

The winner will receive the prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000, according to lottery officials.

The man, who still remains anonymous, “plans to invest his winnings,” though it is unclear how.

More than $14 million has been won playing the $10 Diamonds & Pearls game that launched in August, lottery officials said.

Two $1 million prizes are still up for grabs through the game, as well as 18 $2,000 prizes, they added.
