‘The Daily Show’ to go live with Jon Stewart for DNC, RNC

NEW YORK — Jon Stewart‘s comedic political commentary with his weekly role on “The Daily Show” will kick into high gear during the two major political conventions this summer.

Comedy Central announced Thursday that the longtime late night staple — which usually tapes in front of a live studio audience in Manhattan — will take the show on the road this summer for two live shows covering the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention.

“The Daily Show ” will broadcast live on the final night of each event: July 18 in Milwaukee for the GOP and Aug. 22 in Chicago for the Democrats. The entire production will be dispatched to produce shows on location with Monday to Wednesday episodes from Milwaukee’s Marcus Performing Arts Center and Chicago’s Athenaeum Center for Thought & Culture.

Correspondents Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, Ronny Chieng, Desi Lydic, Dulcé Sloan, Lewis Black, Troy Iwata, Josh Johnson and Grace Kuhlenschmidt will be on hand to continue the show’s “Indecision 2024” election coverage. Free ticket requests for both Milwaukee and Chicago tapings are open to the general public

Stewart, who serves as an executive producer of “The Daily Show,” returned to the anchor desk in February. The 61-year-old funnyman took the torch from Craig Kilborn and hosted from 1996 until 2015.

After his successor Trevor Noah exited in 2022, the satirical series rotated a series of comedians (including John Leguizamo, Marlon Wayans and Leslie Jones) in its search to find a permanent host. Stewart now hosts one show a week, with the other episodes helmed by the correspondents.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stewart’s return has brought a ratings boost to the show. The 22-time Emmy Award winner recently launched a podcast, “The Weekly Show,” also hosted by Stewart.
