Doctor Who might not technically be back on screens for a festive adventure until New Year's Day, but you didn't really think the TARDIS fam would let Christmas pass by, did you?

It's not quite a battle with alien overlords on the edge of a spaceship or fending off an invasion of the town of Christmas from the Daleks, Cybermen and Weeping Angels, but the Thirteenth Doctor does get to have some festive fun in a new animated mini-episode:

This Christmas Eve, Santa needs a helping hand when his sleigh runs out of gas (or chocolate milk, or whatever it runs on), so he calls on his friend with a TARDIS to help finish his trek around the globe.

This meeting between Santa and the Doctor is much more kid-friendly than the previous time they came face-to-face in 2014's 'Last Christmas', since there's not even a single face-hugging alien in sight.

The Doctor will be back in live-action along with her friends Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Graham (Bradley Walsh) on New Year's Day in 'Resolution'. The foursome will arrive back on earth to find it under threat from "the most dangerous creature in the universe".

Although the BBC hasn't yet confirmed those deadly monsters are the Daleks, we can't think of any other monsters that would fit that description better than the trigger-happy pepperpots.

Doctor Who: Resolution will air on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US on New Year's Day (January 1, 2019).
