One Florida dog has found his fur-ever home with an all too familiar face.

Last month, the Alachua County Animal Resources & Care shelter shared a post on Facebook, in which it revealed that a canine found tied up at a local dog park was adopted by a "dear friend" of his original owner, after the dog's second keeper died.

According to the organization, the individual — identified only as Tierney — saw a photograph of the dog, named Ares, and "was in shock" to recognize him.

Tierney and Ares' original owner, the animal shelter said, "never knew what had happened" to the pet, and they moved on without him.

"They looked for him for so long, so when his picture popped up, Tierney came rushing in," the Alachua County Animal Resources & Care shelter wrote.

When Tierney visited the Gainesville, Florida, location, they showed staff working there photos of the dog from years ago.

"Tierney showed us the pictures, and we brought Ares out to confirm it was THE Ares," the shelter said.

In reunion photos shared online by the Alachua County Animal Resources & Care shelter, Tierney can be seen holding onto a thrilled Ares.

The organization noted that Tierney later "decided to finalize his adoption and make this reunion a permanent one," adding, "Ares knew so much love before, and we are so happy he will never be without it again."

It is not immediately clear how or why Ares was left tied up after his owner's death, or how that owner came to own the dog after Tierney's friend.
