Don't Tell Anne Hathaway That She Looks Good for Her Age
"To me, aging is another word for living."
At age 40, superstar Anne Hathaway says that she feels better than ever — and she doesn't even think about aging. The newly minted Shiseido global ambassador explained that when she hears people tell her that she looks good "for her age," it's a backhanded compliment and not something she ever wants to hear.
"I don't think about age," she said in a new interview with Today. "To me, aging is another word for living. So, if people want to pay a compliment, it's nice. But whatever the hype is, I'm interested in what's beyond the concept of hype."
She went on to say that as she's gotten older, she not only learned to be kinder to herself, but to share that same kindness with other people. She also noted that she's better at sharing — though she didn't elaborate on whether that means she's sharing beauty tips or if she's inviting us all to have a bite of her dessert (we wouldn't say no to either).
"I'm right at that point where I have a much better sense of how I like to do things," she added. "I'm so much better at sharing. I feel like I'm kinder to myself and kinder to others."

Hathaway was recently announced as the face of Shiseido’s Vital Perfection product range. Speaking to People, she said that the opportunity was beyond her wildest dreams.
“I feel like I’m punching above my weight class with this one,” she said. “I've known about Shiseido as a company since I was first starting out as an actress. I worked with a makeup artist who used Shiseido products on me, so I've always known their quality.”
She finished by calling out the brand's legacy and heritage, saying that the beauty stalwart was "synonymous with excellence and care."
“It was amazing to realize that a company so timeless, so synonymous with excellence and care and thoughtfulness could want me,” she added. “It was an incredible compliment and I decided to say yes before they changed their minds.”
