Doritos Unveils a (Real!) Nacho Cheese-Flavored $65 Liquor That ‘Smells and Tastes Just Like the Real Thing’

The cheesy beverage is a collaboration with flavor innovator company Empirical

Doritos is here to bring the cheese factor to cocktails.

On Tuesday, the brand revealed a collaboration with flavor innovator company Empirical: a nacho cheese spirit. Without a typical liquor base like vodka or gin, it's described in the release as "uncategorized."

The limited-release Empirical x Doritos Nacho Cheese Spirit “smells and tastes just like the real thing,” per the press release.

To truly capture the essence of the iconic chip brand, layers of Doritos nacho cheese were “extracted” using real chips through “vacuum distillation,” which helps preserve original flavor.

Next month, customers can snag a bottle of the spirit online for an SRP of $65. They’re available for pre-order starting on Dec. 13 on doritos.x.empirical.co.

This isn’t the first time a food brand experimented with an out-of-this-world cheese product. In July 2021, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese announced a partnership with Brooklyn-based ice cream parlor Van Leeuwen to release a limited-edition pint of mac & cheese-flavored ice cream. It was made using actual powdered cheese from their macaroni boxes.

In October of this year, the unique Van Leeuwen flavor came back to Walmart stores. The $5 treat will be available through Dec. 26.

Of the six other Van Leeuwen flavors available at Walmarts nationwide, there is another savory option: dill pickle. The dill pickle flavor combines sweet pickle ice cream with a dill pickle swirl, aiming for a sweet and salty combo.

Earlier this year, the New York City-based ice cream spot released another internet-breaking-flavor: Hidden Valley Ranch ice cream. Available at select Walmart stores across the country this spring, the limited-edition pints promised tastes of buttermilk and herbs.
