Drug dealer tries to flee on foot after 90mph chase
A drug dealer known as "Greeneyes" has been captured after he attempted to flee on foot following a 90mph police chase.
Shabaz Ali tried to flee in a Volkswagen Golf GTI after Greater Manchester Police (GMP) attempted to stop him in Kingsway, Rochdale.
Heroin and crack-cocaine worth about £10,000 were later found in the car.
He was jailed for seven years at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Wednesday after pleading guilty to supplying Class A drugs, dangerous driving and driving while disqualified.
GMP said officers from its specialist tactical vehicle intercept unit chased Ali's car as he sped through residential estates, until it struck a kerb.
Ali, from Deeplish Road, Rochdale, fled on foot but was tracked by a police helicopter and found hiding in the back garden of a local house.
Dashboard camera video released by GMP showed part of the pursuit, and further body-worn camera footage showed Ali's arrest.
He did not resist as he was placed in handcuffs, and was told "unlucky mate" by the officer as he was led away.
In his vehicle, police discovered 944 individual wraps of drugs that were ready to be sold on the street.
Det Sgt Gabe Gibson, from the Rochdale Challenger Organised Crime Team, said Ali's "outrageous" driving had put the public in danger.
He added: “The recovery of £10,000 worth of Class A drugs showed the true nature of his greedy mindset - making vast sums of money via the abhorrent trade of selling heroin and crack cocaine on the streets of Rochdale."
