E. Jean Carroll Sets First TV Interview After Trump Ordered to Pay Her $83M

Rachel Maddow has landed a big scoop: E. Jean Carroll, who just won an $83.3 million judgment against former president Donald Trump for defamation, will join Maddow for her first TV interview since the trial ended.

Carroll will appear on Monday’s edition of MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show (9/8c), the network announced on Friday. Earlier on Friday, a Manhattan federal jury found that Trump should pay Carroll $83.3 million in damages for disparaging her and denying her allegations of rape. The total includes $18.3 million in compensatory damages and $65 million in punitive damages. Last year, a separate jury found that Trump sexually abused Carroll and then disparaged her, awarding her a total of $5 million.

Carroll, a journalist and author, accused Trump of sexually assaulting her in the mid-’90s in a Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City. Trump has denied the accusations and claims he never met Carroll. After the first trial, Trump continued making disparaging remarks about Carroll, which led to the second trial and monetary judgment.

Trump — the current frontrunner for the Republican nomination in this year’s presidential election — plans to appeal the verdict. He’s facing several legal woes, however: He was indicted four times last year and faces dozens of felony charges for a variety of alleged crimes, including conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 election (which he lost to President Joe Biden), mishandling classified documents and making hush money payments to women with whom he allegedly had sexual encounters.
