Eco whale swallows shoppers' used plastics
A giant bottle bank in the shape of a whale is on display as part of a campaign for cleaner oceans.
Shoppers at the the Kingfisher Shopping Centre in Redditch, Worcestershire, are being encouraged to deposit their single-use plastic bottles in the bottle bank, made from 100% recycled material.
Organisers hope the whale will act as a visual reminder that used plastic can cause problems for sea life if it gets into the oceans.
The bottle bank is part of the shopping centre's 2024 eco campaign, Waves of Change.
Adrian Field, general manager at Kingfisher, said: "The big whale has gone down a treat with guests young and old and it has already swallowed a lot of recycled material already.
"We are committed to recycling wherever and whenever we can, as we hope that the people in the centre will do so in their droves as well."
Almost 17 tonnes of plastic was recycled by the shopping centre in 2023 and with the help of the Eco Whale the goal is to exceed this for 2024.
The whale will be in Redditch town centre until May 2025.
