Axel Foley is a dad on a mission.
Eddie Murphy teams up with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the full trailer for the upcoming sequel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the long-awaited fourth installment in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise.
Netflix released the preview May 23, featuring equal parts hijinks and action as Axel returns to his roots.
"Detective Axel Foley (Murphy, 63) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills," reads a synopsis for the film, directed by Mark Malloy and written by Will Beall, Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten.

"After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Gordon-Levitt, 43) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy," the synopsis adds.
The group is shown in the new trailer in a variety of dangerous situations, including on a helicopter, in a high-speed car chase — and even, at one point, Axel driving a snowplow.
"I'm gettin' us some backup," he says near the end of the trailer as a number of squad cars surround the vehicle he's driving, seemingly to assist in a chase.
While Gordon-Levitt's character, Detective Bobby Abbott, looks worried from his middle seat in the vehicle, Billy smiles from the passenger side and says, "God, I missed you, Axel."
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F also stars Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot and Kevin Bacon. Producers include Murphy, Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman, with executive producers Ray Angelic, Charisse Hewitt-Webster, Melissa Reid and Lorenzo Di Bonaventura.

In the original 1984 film — which was a box-office smash and shot Murphy to international stardom — the Saturday Night Live alum’s character is a Detroit detective who goes rogue and heads to southern California to solve the murder of his childhood friend (James Russo). Murphy reprised the role of Axel in Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and Beverly Hills Cop III (1994).
Murphy told PEOPLE in November 2023 that shooting Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F was more difficult this time, nearly 30 years after making the last installment. “It was a hard one,” he said. “I did Axel Foley when I was in my 20s. I am not in my 20s anymore.”
“It was an action movie. So it was a rough one. But we got through it,” Murphy added.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is on Netflix July 3.
