Roker then asked the actor about his ideal day outside of work, saying, “I remember talking to you once and you said your ideal day for you when you’re not working is that you’re home and your kids are within earshot.”

“Yeah. That means I’m in a nice quiet controlled space,” Murphy replied. “I have a 5-year-old and an 8-year-old, and they make a lot of noise. You need a little space.”

Murphy then admitted that his younger children are completely unaware of his fame.

“Do the young ones know the cultural icon that dad is?” Roker asked.

“Not at all,” Murphy replied. “And the other ones don’t care,” he joked about his older children.

The proud dad recently explained that his favorite role to portray is a dad. The Coming 2 America star explained in a 2021 appearance on Marc Maron's WTF podcast that his kids always come before his career, calling them the "center of everything."

"I am going to be 60 in April and I have all these babies," the actor said. "I love fatherhood."

"The whole idea of being out there and doing three movies a year, that s— is over ... I found over and over again and along the way I realized that if you put your children first you never make a bad decision," the comedian added.

"I am so blessed with my kids," he said. "I don't have one bad seed. I don't have any like 'Oh you are the one.' I don't have any of that. My kids are so great, normal people — and nobody is like the Hollywood jerk kid."

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F premieres July 3 on Netflix.
