Severe weather could be on the way for parts of Essex County on Tuesday night, Environment Canada warns.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing nickel-sized hail and heavy rain is located near Wheatley and is nearly stationary. The storm could produce winds gusting up to 70 kilometres per hour.

Albuna, Wigle, Mount Carmel, Blytheswood, Oakland and Goldsmith could all be impacted, Environment Canada warns.

"Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury," Environment Canada said in its alert.

"Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!"
