Police have now identified the man they say was killed in a shooting in Lakeshore over the weekend, and the man accused in his death.

In a media statement, Essex County OPP say Tony Bechara, 47, of Windsor, was pronounced dead in hospital after a shooting on Saturday.

According to OPP,  47-year-old Glen Mayer of LaSalle has been charged with first-degree murder and remains in custody.

'A nice, genuine, humble man'

Greg Lemay says he's known Bechara for over two decades through the downtown Windsor bar and restaurant scene.

At the time of his death, Bechara worked as a waiter at The Bourbon Tap & Grill in Tecumseh. He was a big gym-goer and was also interested in car detailing, which he did on the side, according to Lemay.

Bechara was "always a joy to be around," Lemay said.

"Just a nice, genuine, humble man" who was appreciated, respected and also the life of the party, he said.
