The Switzerland clash against France was the game of Euro 2020 so far with supporters riding a rollercoaster of emotions and one fan's reaction in the space of one minute summed it up.

In an astonishing Round of 16 clash, Switzerland knocked out reigning world champions France after Kylian Mbappe missed from the spot in a tense penalty shootout.

But the drama all occurred in a remarkable second half, which the commentator described as 'beyond belief'.

The Swiss took a shock lead in the 15th minute when Haris Seferovic rose to head home Steven Zuber's cross, and they could have had a second from the penalty spot early in the second but Hugo Lloris saved from Ricardo Rodriguez.

But the tide turned when Karim Benzema showed some audacious skill to control the ball from behind his body, get it under control, and chip the keeper.

He then nodded home from only a yard out to give France the lead in the space of four minutes.

But the drama wasn't over when Seferovic headed in his second goal in the 84th minute to leave it 3-2.

In the 89th minute, Switzerland had a goal ruled out after a close offside call.

The camera panned to a heartbroken Swiss fan in the crowd who was in tears and showcasing his passion after what many thought could have been his nation's last chance.

But only 90 seconds later, Mario Gavronovic rounded a French defender and superbly slotted the ball past the keeper to send the stadium into raptures.

The pandemonium was evident on the same Swiss fan's face as he removed his shirt and cheered in ecstasy.

The moment was broadcasted around the world and the fan has since gone viral, representing a symbol of the 'beautiful game'.

The drama wasn't over the game went beyond extra-time and into a penalty shootout.

Manuel Akanji, Gavranovic, Fabian Schar, Ruben Vargas and Admir Mehmedi all scored for the Swiss in the shootout but Mbappe was unable to follow successful spot-kicks from teammates Pogba, Giroud, Marcus Thuram and Presnel Kimpembe.

Switzerland advanced to the last eight of a big event for the first time since the 1954 World Cup with a first-ever victory over France in a competitive match.

It was the third of six round of 16 games this tournament to go to extra time but the first to be decided by penalties.

With Spain defeating Croatia in an equally exhilirating game, which saw eight goals, fans couldn't help but label what they had just witnessed at Euro 2020 as 'insanity'.
