The gruesome discovery was made around 11:15 a.m. local time at a home located on the 2800 block of West Fitch Avenue, according to police.
Though police have not identified the remains at this time, CBS affiliate WBBM reported that family members discovered the body on Monday, days after the homeowner was found dead inside the home on Friday.
The homeowner was identified as 79-year-old Gerald Harris, per ABC affiliate WLS and Fox affiliate WFLD. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office reported he died of natural heart-related causes, and that his date of death was recorded as Feb. 3, although neighbors believed he could have been dead for months, according to WLS.

Neighbors told the outlet they thought the homeowner lived alone and that he was often seen sitting in his car.
"We didn't have a close relationship, but he liked to sit out in his car and read the newspaper and when we would pass by he liked to talk," neighbor Bobbie Nussbaum told the outlet.
"The homeowner never mentioned anyone living with him," neighbor Larry Baer said while speaking with WFLD.
