Handsome red lips and grown-up pinks: the best AW24 make-up looks (and how to do them)
It is a fair few months away from autumn/winter, but before long we will see the influence of the fashion week catwalks on our wardrobes. And, as ever, the trends will infiltrate our beauty looks too – and naturally the runways were awash with hairstyle and make-up looks to inspire us.
The good news is, there is something for everyone – whether you're looking for a new way to update your signature red lip or in need of an easy alternative to special occasion make-up. For those keen to refresh a staid make-up bag, Christian Louboutin Beauty's new global make-up artist Morgane Martini has this advice: "Stay in your comfort zone but just switch it up a little bit. Instead of black eyeliner, go for a burgundy, grey or silver." That way, you can still keep it classic and subtle, while "building up to have more fun with make-up".
According to her, make-up is all about balance. You can play with bold colours, shimmering textures or stick to neutrals, but keeping the whole face harmonious is key to ensuring it looks polished and grown-up. "I always make sure that there's an element of freshness, so if I am going heavy on the eyes and the lips, will make sure the skin looks super fresh," says Martini. "That means almost no powder so the skin breathes and looks real."
From bright lips punctuating healthy skin seen at Richard Quinn and Moschino, to pops of pinks on the eyes at Dior and Carolina Herrera, and the swathes of metallics spotted at Jason Wu and Ulla Johnson, see Bazaar's round-up of the best make-up trends from the AW24 runways to try.
The chicest make-up trends for autumn/winter 2024
THE TREND: THINK PINK
Relinquishing its saccharine sweet narrative, AW24’s take on pink feels distinctly more audacious with asymmetrical, organic shapes as seen at Dior by Peter Philips (left) and Bach Mai.
“The beauty of colour is that there's a million ways to interpret it,” says Martini, who counts pink as one of her favourite hues. Use it in place of your classic black feline flick for an unexpected flash of colour, and wear with a fresh, lived-in complexion to keep it grown-up.
In the evenings, do it ala Dior by dabbing on a cream blush or pink pigment (Philips used Mehron's Paradise Paint) just in the inner corners to dress up the eyes.

THE TREND: DIVINE SPARKLE
Before you discount the embellishment trend as a look that’s reserved for teenagers at Glastonbury, let us direct you to the sophisticated make-up at Christian Cowan and Thom Browne (left).
Adding a tiny, sparkly crystal at the edge of your lash line or directly underneath your iris is an easy way to do party-ready make-up without fussing around with glitter eyeshadows. If you're ready to dial up the drama, Vivetta serves up plenty of inspiration.
Celebrities like Lucy Boynton and Jodie Turner-Smith are fans, too. Keep the diameter of the crystal small, use a clear stone and keep the rest of your skin looking healthy with a dewy base.

THE TREND: HANDSOME REDS
A good red lip is essentially beauty’s version of the Little Black Dress, versatile for all occasions no matter your age or skin tone.
Martini favours a matte texture for winter, such as Christian Louboutin Beauty Rouge Stiletto Lumi Matte lipstick in Rouge Louboutin, as ‘the cooler weather will make it stay better’. Make it the talking point this season with a richly pigmented lip on a luminous base devoid of blush (as seen at Richard Quinn, left), contour or fluttery lashes (try a boyish, undone brow) for a look that is truly modern.

THE TREND: SOFT METALS
It’s easy to veer into costume territory with glitter, but metallics impart a similar amount of drama that still feels sophisticated.
“Go for one colour and softly blend it all over your eyelids with your ring finger,” suggests Martini, who recommends anchoring it with mascara. Golds (as seen at Jason Wu, left, and Chanel) and coppers work beautifully across all complexions, especially those with warm undertones, while cool silvers are great for a nineties feel. You can also use it as an extra thin eyeliner, which Martini describes as "super chic".

THE TREND: WINTER ROMANCE
As the evenings get longer, nothing perks up a winter complexion more than blush. Moving away from summer’s ‘sunkissed’ look (where colour is placed across the nose and all over the cheeks), next season sees blush worn higher on the cheek for a “natural, fresh glow”, says Martini.
“I always end up with whatever is left on the brush and go above the eyelids and a little bit on the temples,” she explains. Buff it on gently with a dense foundation brush so the colour melts seamlessly into the skin. Keep it low-key with a tinted lip balm, or dab on a lipstick that’s a shade deeper than your blush for a romantic finish, as seen at Molly Goddard (left) by make-up artist Lisa Eldridge.
