Flood warnings issued after heavy rain
Two flood warnings were issued after heavy rain and thunderstorms swept across parts of West Yorkshire.
People living in the Batley area were warned flooding was expected in the wake of downpours on Tuesday evening, with residents advised to consider moving items of value upstairs or to higher ground.
Kirklees Council posted on X to say Carlinghow Lane was closed at junction of Ealand Rd and Coal Pit Mews, though the road has since reopened.
The Environment Agency removed both flood warnings shortly before 21:00 BST, but advised people to avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near watercourses and not to attempt to walk or drive through flood water.
Councillor Tanisha Bramwell, who represents the nearby Dewsbury West ward, said: "The rain was torrential, then it began to become more intense accompanied by hailstone and lightning."
She described the thunderstorms as "chaotic and very loud".
