Former Giants Lineman Korey Cunningham Found Dead in His Home at 28

Police and medical responders arrived on the scene at Cunningham’s New Jersey home on April 25.

Korey Cunningham, the former offensive lineman for the New York Giants, was found dead in his home at 28, PEOPLE has confirmed.

On April 25, just before 3:30 pm local time, police and medical responders arrived on the scene at Cunningham’s Clifton, New Jersey home following reports that a man was unconscious, according to local outlet RLS Media.

After arriving at the scene Cunningham was found by authorities, who notified the medical examiner and his body was taken to a local hospital, RLS Media said.

The Clifton Police Department tells PEOPLE at this time the cause of Cunningham’s death is currently under investigation, but they confirmed that his death was not the result of foul play.

Following the news of Cunningham’s death, the New York Giants released a statement that was shared on X (previously known as Twitter).

“We are saddened to hear of the passing of Korey Cunningham. He was a vital part of the spirit and camaraderie of the locker room. Our thoughts are with Korey’s family, friends and teammates.”

Several of Cunningham's former Giants teammates posted about his death on social media, with Justin Pugh saying Cunningham would join their dinners after he was cut from the team.

"We would invite him to the OL dinner every week even though he wasn't on the team which doesn't happen ... ever," Pugh wrote on X. "Team dinners are for players on the team only. Except for Korey ... solely because he was beloved by all the guys regardless if you knew him or not! He'd tell stories and we'd laugh our asses off all night.

"Today is a sad day but I'll always remember the good times and the laughs. Everyone who knew Korey Cunnigham was better for it. The world lost a great soul."

Safety Jason Pinnock added on his Instagram Story: "This one hurt! Regardless of what you was going through you wore the biggest smile! You was the first person to come help me move when I was getting settled at NYG. Middle of camp & you frinding to be on team & learn new playbook, you was the first at my house ready! Take care of yourselves & call your friends ppl. I love you brudda!"

In 2018, Cunningham was a seventh round NFL draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals before playing for the New England Patriots and finally the New York Giants in 2021.
