Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade brought the heat to the 2024 Met Gala with a glam date night!

On May 6, the actress and advocate, 51, and retired NBA legend, 42, hit the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City for the fashion gala. The fête is celebrating the Costume Institute’s spring exhibit, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," held with the dress code of "The Garden of Time."

Union shimmered in a high-neck Michael Kors dress with a cascading ombré scale pattern of lilac, green and teal blue, giving mermaid vibes! She swept her hair back in a bun accented with a silver star (dare we say, starfish?) and statement drop earrings.

In a cool but subtle complementary look, Wade sported a lilac Versace suit with two necklaces on the right lapel, a white top and black shoes. He credited Cartier on Instagram and captioned the video of his exit from The Carlyle Hotel "The reawakening," a fitting segue for the Garden of Time gala.

The couple's fashion statement at their fifth Met Gala together was in sync, as it has been in years past. They attended the event for the first time as newlyweds in 2015, one year after the Bring It On actress made her Met debut during the theme "Charles James: Beyond Fashion."

Union recently told PEOPLE her secret to radiating confidence at any event: staying authentically true to herself.

"I'm me 100 percent of the time. I follow where my passion is… My style evolves daily and I dress how I feel," she said.

Last year, Union and Wade rocked the Met Gala red carpet in monochrome leather looks by Prada to honor "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," the theme of the evening.

The Knix ambassador made a red-hot statement in head-to-toe red with a leather trench coat and floor-length gown, accessorizing with Tiffany & Co. necklaces and rings and styling her hair in long braids parted down the middle. Meanwhile, the Miami Heat alum sported an all-black outfit consisting of a long blazer, leather button-up top and trousers, completing the look with black gloves and a shiny brooch and chain bracelets also by Tiffany & Co.

The 2022 Met Gala was especially memorable for Union, as she honored Black and Brown communities with her look for the "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" benefit. There, she wore a plunging silver Versace gown with an embellished feathered train plus red floral accent around her waist, and told Vogue how it connected to the dress code, "Gilded Glamour."

"This is from Versace, they've been working on these looks for many, many, many months and from sketch to the execution is dead-on," Union told the outlet’s livestream. "I kind of get a little emotional when you talk about everything that goes into the making of this dress and what inspired it."

"Because when you think about the Gilded Age and Black and brown people in this country, this country is built off of our backs, our blood, sweat and tears. So we added these red crystals to represent the blood spilled during the accumulation of gross wealth by a few during the Gilded Age, off of the backs of Black people and people of color in this country," she said.

Union then saluted the iconic late Black actress Diahann Carroll, who died in 2019 at age 84, explaining, "So this is inspired by Diahann Carroll, a symbol of opulence and if you will, a gilded glamor."

Wade made a sleek statement at "In America: An Anthology of Fashion" in an all-white suit with jacket unbuttoned to show off his physique, and shouted out how he coordinated with his wife.

"Our stylists, Thomas and Jason, do a great job at making sure we stay together and looking good. So we're both wearing Versace, we both got on Tiffany & Co. jewelry, you know all around," Wade said at the Met Gala in 2022, adding that it’s "always amazing" to be back at the fashion bash.

The 2024 Met Gala theme "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" celebrates the upcoming Costume Institute exhibition, which will highlight around 250 items spanning over 400 years of fashion history.

The display runs from May 10 to September 2 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
