New X-Men spinoff show The Gifted will not cross over with the rest of the franchise, it has been confirmed. Boo.

A panel for the upcoming FOX show took place at Comic-Con yesterday (July 21), though its showrunner, Matt Nix, quickly dashed any hopes of his cast meeting that of the likes of Legion and the X-Men movies.

"One of the great favours that [2014 movie] Days of Future Past did for all of us is establish many streams," Nix said (via Variety). "I guess that one answer is that this is one of those many streams."

He added that The Gifted does "not share a universe with" the films or any other X-Men series.

"Right now one of the things that comes out in the show is the X-Men are gone," Nix added. "Why are they gone? That's a thing in the show. It's not just that they're too expensive for television - though that may be related."

A fan also asked whether the show would at least meet with Legion, the Dan Stevens-starring FX series, but executive producer Lauren Shuler Donner shot that idea down too.

"I'm sorry to break your heart," she said. "No, but thank you for wanting it."

The panel also introduced an extended look at the new show, which takes place on the periphery of the X-Men universe as a pair of gifted teens seek shelter from a world that fears and hates.

The Gifted will premiere on Monday, October 2 at 9pm ET on Fox in the US.
