"There's beauty in so many things, it shouldn't be something that's limiting," Antonia Gentry tells Harper's Bazaar. This free-spirited approach allows the 26 year-old actor to consistently experiment with her beauty looks on the red carpet, whether it is with a Barbie-esque ponytail at this year's People's Choice Awards or side-swept, waist-grazing mermaid locks at Givenchy's recent runway show.

Off the carpets, Gentry keeps it au naturel, not unlike Ginny, the titular character she plays on Netflix's hit series, Ginny & Georgia. Think brushed-up brows, clean skin and air-dried hair. Like a lot of Gen-Z's, Gentry's routine is simple and relatable, yet rooted in research. As the new face of Aveda's Be Curly range, she sits down with Bazaar to share the most important advice she has for her younger self, her haircare regime and the French skincare brand she rates for her delicate complexion.

On her beauty icons...

"I love Zoë Kravitz. Every time you see her, she looks incredible. Florence Pugh, she's just beautiful on the inside and out. I feel as though anyone – especially those with a big platform – who makes you feel safe and welcomed, is a beautiful person."

On her hair routine...

"I love how versatile curly and textured hair can be. I can wear it out and it's bouncy and big. I can straighten it, I can make it wavy.

"I use three products outside of shampooing and conditioning. Aveda has a Be Curly Advanced Curl Perfecting Primer that I'll spray onto my hair, work it in and then right after I'll go in with my favourite: the Be Curly Advanced Enhancer Cream. It's very lightweight and it makes my hair feel really moisturised and nourished."

"Before, I would wash my hair every other day because it was hard to keep my curls lasting throughout the week but now I'll use the Be Curly Advanced Coil Definer Gel and a heat diffuser, and I'm good for several days. When I'm working, there is a lot of heat styling involved so it's important for me to be able to take care of my hair outside of work to prevent damage. The Be Curly Advanced Intensive Curl Perfecting Masque is so good and only takes three minutes. I am the laziest person when it comes to getting treatments so it's nice to have something I can just use in the shower."

On experimenting with hair...

"My favourite look for a red carpet was my first Vanity Fair Oscars Party last year. I worked with Marty Harper, my go-to hairstylist, and we did this lovely, really long half wig situation where my hair is pulled back. There was a headband, my hair was down to my butt and I felt like a different woman."

On the best beauty advice...

"Wear sunscreen religiously!

"I also used to wear my hair in such tight ponytails every day but that can that break it; especially textured hair and my hair is very fine. So I've learned to relinquish the tight buns. Don't do it as often and your hair will thank you for it."

On her brow comeback...

"I went through a whole brow journey when the thing was to pluck them into oblivion and so I had to grow them out again. They are naturally very thick and they can grow long and get too curly so I just trim them with brow scissors and then I'll pluck the little ones underneath, but I try to keep them as full as possible. I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel almost everyday and I'll fill in with a pencil like Benefit Precisely My Brow Detailer – it's just like drawing hairs."

On her skincare routine...

"I use an oil-based cleanser and then I have to go in with a gentler cleanser, I think Caudalie has really good ones. I don't wear a lot of make-up daily so it's just a good serum, moisturiser, sunscreen and I'm done. In the winter I'll use La Mer Moisturizing Cream because it's nice and thick; it keeps my skin from drying out. In the summer I love Caudalie; I really like water-based moisturisers. With sunscreen, no one does it better than La Roche-Posay and Shiseido.

On intuitive self-care...

"Mind, body, soul... it's all about the cohesion of the languages between them all. Self-care is really paying attention to what you truly need in a moment and a situation and making the conscious decision – whether that's to step away or to go for a walk or whatever it is – that you need to feel healthy, alive and like yourself."

On advice for her younger self...

"Do not box dye or box bleach your hair; stop straightening it everyday with no heat protectant; and do not just chop it off because you will never grow it back to its full length.

"Stay confident. Stay curious. Stay inspired."
