Halsey's Halloween costume inspired her to become a redhead, and we love it

Halsey is no stranger to a hairstyle switch-up. This time, the “Without Me” singer traded in her My Little Pony-inspired rainbow bangs and rainbow roots for a softer, coppery red shade. The color is so pitch-perfect for autumn, but it wasn’t inspired by the falling leaves. Her new hue was inspired by another fictional character.

Halsey posted a picture of her red hair on Instagram this week, along with the caption, “Been wanting to go this color since I was Poison Ivy last year. 1 year later and it’s time!”

As you may recall, Halsey went as Poison Ivy for her Batman-themed Halloween party in 2018. But Halsey’s circa-2019 hue is a bit more muted than the comic book villain’s cherry-red locks (and the neon bob Halsey rocked for her Marilyn Manson Halloween costume this year). We’re also getting Lana del Rey vibes with her retro barrette and long, loose curls.

The redhead showed off her new look IRL at the MTV EMAs on Sunday, November 3rd, where she killed a fantastical performance of her new single “Graveyard.” She also scooped up the awards for Best Pop Artist and, unsurprisingly, Best Look.

We’re sure we’ll be seeing a lot of Halsey in anticipation of her upcoming album, Manic, which drops on January 17th. And while we’re loving this approachable autumnal look, we can’t help but feel a little curious/hopeful that the style chameleon will debut just a few more surprising hair colors this season.
