The Handmaid’s Tale’s Final Season Won’t Premiere Until 2025
Looks like June and Serena are going to be on that train for a long time: The Handmaid’s Tale‘s upcoming Season 6, its final run, won’t premiere on Hulu until 2025.
In an interview with our sister site Deadline, Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich, who’s in charge of Hulu’s original programming, said the dystopian drama would return to the screen sometime next year. His comments echoed star/executive producer Elisabeth Moss’ recent remarks at the Television Critics Association press tour; Moss, who is pregnant with her first child, told reporters that the show is “prepping right now. We will start this summer.”

The series originally planned a 2024 premiere for its final season, but that timeline was delayed by the writers’ and actors’ strikes of 2023.
The Handsmaid’s Tale was renewed in September 2022, just ahead of its Season 5 premiere. EPs Yahlin Chang and Eric Tuchman will serve as co-showrunners for the final run of episodes, replacing Bruce Miller, who oversaw Seasons 1 through 5. Meanwhile, Miller will be busy heading up The Testaments, a Handmaid’s Tale spinoff based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel that is in active development at the streamer.

Handmaid’s Season 5 finale ended with June and her family on the run when it became clear they were no longer safe in Toronto. But she and husband Luke became separated at the end of the episode, and June and her daughter, Nichole, were forced to board a refugee train while Luke was detained by the authorities. Then, in the episode’s final moments, June realized that her former captor, Serena, and her infant son Noah also were on board the same train.
